Traineeships combine time at work with training and can be full-time or part-time.

Traineeships are the best way to combine training and employment which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Traineeships are available to people of working age and most traineeships do not require any entry qualifications. Traineeships are available to both existing staff and newly employed staff. Employer incentives of up to $4000 are available to eligible employers.

ET Australia has a number of qualifications that are available to undertake as a traineeship. ET Australia's traineeships are delivered on the job via a flexible delivery mode – this is no need for trainees to attend structured classroom sessions.

Traineeships are available from Certificate II to Diploma levels. Trainees are either classified as 'new entrant trainees' or 'existing worker trainees' – see definitions below.

Traineeship Eligibility Criteria: -

A person is eligible to be approved as an apprentice or trainee in NSW if they are:

    • an Australian citizen, or
    • a foreign national with permanent residency, or
    • a New Zealand passport holder who has been resident in Australia for more than six months

New Entrant Trainee is defined as a person employed within an enterprise for not more than three months full-time or 12 months part-time or casual or any combination of the above for a continuous period not exceeding 12 months.

Existing Worker Trainee is defined as a person who has been employed within an enterprise continuously for more than 3 months full-time or 12 months casual or part-time or a combination of both, immediately prior to commencement of the training contract.

Eligibility for approval as an apprentice or trainee for people holding existing qualifications in the vocation.

A person who has completed the qualification specified in the Vocational Training Order (VTO) for a traineeship vocation or who has completed a relevant qualification at a higher level will not be approved as a trainee. This includes applications from people who wish to undertake a different stream at the same level within the same traineeship vocation.

Please note, there are a range of Government incentives and subsidies available to assist employers. For information on how to access these incentives and the full range of incentives available please contact an Australian Apprenticeship Centre.
